Carrie roams these mountains and valleys with her children and grandchildren and anyone else who is interested. She knows the trees and wildflowers by name and regales her audience with stories about their place in the scheme of local flora and fauna.
After working in a factory for 16 years so that she could send her son to college, she retired just a year ago so that she and her husband, Jim, could have more time to hike and camp. But it was not meant to be. Jim’s mother was incapacitated by a stroke and needed full-time care. Carrie offered her services and in so doing, took on another full-time job. Her love of family rivals her love of nature.
You can see her on Saturday mornings selling her homemade soap at the Marion Farmer’s Market. You will immediately be taken in by her open, friendly personality. She knows no stranger. There could be no finer representative of our Beautiful People who grace these beautiful mountains.
